Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, has signed a multi million pound contract with leading repairs and maintenance provider, Kier, which aims to improve services for residents across the borough over the next five years. The contract will be managed by South Essex Homes.
The contract, which begins on April 1 2012, will see Kier provide a repairs and maintenance service to more than 12,000 residents living in social housing accommodation across Southend. Kier will take responsibility for out of hours emergency works, major works, void property inspections and renovations as well as every day responsive repairs and maintenance.
The Council’s Executive Councillor for Adult Social Care, Health and Housing, Lesley Salter said: “It is vitally important to make sure that Council properties are well maintained, and that when repairs are needed, these are carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible, with the minimum of disruption to tenants.
“We congratulate Kier on winning the contract, and look forward to working in partnership with them and our management company, South Essex Homes, to improve our housing stock for the benefit of our tenants now and in the future.”

Kier was selected to provide repairs and maintenance services to the Council’s 6,000 homes following an extensive procurement process, conducted under strict EU procurement regulations. The selection process incorporated a complex quality evaluation, interviews and site visits involving residents at every stage.
