Decent Homes & Asset Management

What is the Decent Homes Standard?

watching telly 2

This is the standard that the Government has set for all Council homes to reach by an agreed date.  South Essex Homes aim is to achieve this standard by 2012/13.

’A decent home is one which is wind and weather tight, warm, and has modern facilities. It reflects what social landlords spend their money on. To set a national target a common definition of ’decent’ is needed so all social landlords can work towards the same goal’.

The Decent Homes Criteria

A Decent Home must meet the following standards:

  1. It must meet the current statutory minimum standard for housing;
  2. It must be in a reasonable state of repair;
  3. It must have reasonably modern facilities and services; and
  4. It must provide a reasonable degree of thermal comfort.

Further details on the definition of 'Decent Homes' can be found on Decent Homes Criteria Link.
