Community Safety Roadshow kicks off in Westcliff
The Southend Community Safety Roadshow kicked off its 2010 campaign at Westcliff Library by fitting security tags to bicycles and mobility scooters and handing out free security devices and crime prevention advice to local residents.
The event, organised by Southend Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP), took place on Saturday 20 February between 9:30am and 1pm. A total of 24 bikes and six mobility scooters were tagged as members of the public literally queued up for the free service.
Mick Holland, Community Engagement Officer and Pat Butcher, Neighbourhood Watch volunteer, met with members of the public to tag their bicycles and mobility scooters and to hand out personal attack alarms, purse chains, UV pens for postcoding personal property and numerous other goodies.
Pleased with the response from the public, Mick Holland said: “It was great to see so many people coming along to improve the security of their bicycles and mobility scooters and to talk to us about crime prevention. I hope that we can encourage even more people to come to our Roadshow events in the future.”
Local Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) Linda Werrett and Angela Westall were also on hand to talk with local residents about any issues they had, together with a member of Southend Council’s Street Scene Team.
