Support Services Projects
Multi-Lingual Drop In Sessions
Breaking down the language barriers.
The group is made up of volunteers, who collectively speak 15 different languages including Spanish, French, Arabic, Zulu, Shona, Kraal, IL French Oriental Languages and Indonesian and are helping to support residents, where English is not their first language.
They meet every Thursday at The Hub, Victoria Shopping Centre, Southend between 10am and 4pm to offer support, advice and translation services to residents. Help will also be on hand for residents to use a computer and if a volunteer isn’t available who speaks a specific language we have software available to translate!
Maria Medina, Community Development Officer for South Essex Homes, said: "Being multi-lingual brings many advantages – however in some cases it can act as a barrier- one which we are trying to break down through support and referrals if needed."
