Football project - Community United

South Essex Homes joined up with other local agencies to set up ‘Community United’, in response to residents’ concerns that young people were causing a nuisance in Shoebury.

Local residents reported anti-social behaviour by young people in Shoebury including littering, ball games being played in prohibited areas and noise nuisance.  They believed that youths were causing trouble because they had nothing to do, so the Resident Involvement Team at South Essex Homes teamed up with Connexions to launch Community United in September 2011.

Since its launch, this scheme has grown in popularity and now around thirty youngsters regularly attend the football training sessions at Shoebury Youth Centre, which take place from 4.30pm on Thursdays for kids aged 7-11 and between 5-6pm on Wednesdays for 12-16 year olds.

If you are interested in joining Community United in Shoebury or if you live elsewhere in the Southend borough and think your neighbourhood could benefit from such a scheme, please get in touch.  You can contact Stuart Long on 01702 212650 for more information.
